For years, Lorne has been a very popular destination for the avid amateur fisherman.
Whether pier, rock, estuarine, river and offshore boat fishing, Lorne has been a mecca for all.

The Lorne pier is a popular fishing spot day or night, in an area noted for its Snapper, Salmon, Trevally, Couta, Whiting, Garfish and of course the ever sort after Calamari. It is a perfect location for a family fishing trip.

Rock fishing around Lorne is also very popular with it’s abundance of rock ledges coming in to town and on your way just out. This form of fishing has it’s many rewards, Snapper, Salmon, Trevally, Whiting, Garfish, Mullet & the fantastic Sweep are the main of many targeted species.
Not only is it a great form of fishing but it also lets you explore and find new holes and gutters leading you to that prized catch.

The estuarine system of the Erskine River near the swing bridge has seen many great catches of the famous Southern Black Bream. Fish to 1.3 kilo have been caught in this small but productive estuarine. Since the erection of the new walkway along the river, many kids with their dads have found it the perfect place to catch their first fish.

The freshwater systems of the Erskine & St.George rivers have also the elusive Trout in their waters. This highly sort after fish has had many a fisherman walking along the picturesque river banks waiting for a sign to cast that lure or worm.

If you are lucky enough and the weather is calm, boat fishing can be the most rewarding form of fishing in Lorne. With it’s many close inshore reefs you don’t have to travel that far out to catch some amazing fish. Snapper, Salmon, Trevally, Couta, Whiting, Garfish, Sweep, Pike, Gummy Shark...they are all there and in big numbers.

Don’t forget, for safety reasons always make sure you have checked with the weather bureau
to see if there are going to be any sudden changes in the weather forecast.

A recreational fishing license is required for all forms of recreational fishing in all Victorian marine, estuary and fresh waters. Licenses are available at the Lorne Foreshore Office opposite the supermarket the Lorne Newsagency, Riordans Hardware and BP Service Station.

    Great fishing to you all.
